A single, simple moment of Joy

A christmas that needs more JOY

In the run up to Christmas time, life is in a whirl. Between Christmas shopping, colourful decorations, zoom gatherings, keeping up with the latest government regulations (!!) and December birthdays, where do you fall in all of the hustle and bustle? Do you find yourself feeling stressed and uneasy, or do you go with the flow and enjoy each moment as it arises?

Life is full of moments—some happy and others sad. Christmas time certainly provides its share of ups and downs, and even more so in this unprecedented year with every changing heart breaking restrictions.

However, as bumpy as the journey of life gets, there are always more people thinking of you, and sending positivity to you, than you may think.

I promise. So it’s really important you take time to pause especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, negative or down.

Slow down and breath.

One way to do that is to focus on one single, simple moment of joy. It has been said:

“If happy Buddha sits inside, there will be no seats for sadness.”

“If happy Buddha sits inside, there will be no seats for sadness.”

Fill your cup

Our job then, is to fill our lives with as much joy and positivity as possible. For the simple truth is, when we boil it down, we only have two emotions. Ones that makes us feel great and ones that don’t.

The secret is emotions are indicators on our life path. Follow the good feeling ones and more good things will happen to you. Enjoy more things and more entertaining opportunities will come your way. Focus on the negative … and well you know. I don’t have to spell it out. It’s the law of attraction.

And it all begins with a simply, moment or memory of JOY! Think of one NOW! Keep the momentum going for 17 seconds. Notice what happens! It’s amazing

And it all begins with a simply, moment or memory of JOY!

Think of one NOW!

Keep the momentum going for 17 seconds.

Notice what happens! It’s amazing

I totally understand that finding one moment of pure joy may seem impossible to do in an instant. But it is so worth doing and you are worth taking the time to do so! You really are! Let the joy replace worry, fear, stress and insecurity now.

Let’s try it again

Think of something you love or have loved doing, being with your favourite pet, walking in the woods, a romantic kiss, when you were told you did a good job, something that makes you go slightly soft and gooey in your tummy. Now focus on the feeling. It is all about the feeling rather than the actual thing. Let the feeling expand and expand till it grows and grows. Focus on the feeling, if your mind wanders off go back to the feeling.

Take 2

If that exercise didn’t work for you then let’s try another. Remember, start small. Look back on each decade of your life. Let the memories flood in and allow yourself to feel. Sift through each snapshot in time until you reach one moment of pure joy. Allow yourself to truly experience that moment. Put yourself back in the shoes of that 10, 30 or 80 year-old person. How does the joy of that moment change the shape of your smile and the softness of your face? How does it impact your heart and the hearts of others around you?

Make triggering Joyful moments routine. You’ll never regret it.

Remember the feeling of Joy as you walk through each day especially when they are heavy, burdensome, worrisome, or seemingly insignificant.

Trigger the mind with a sticker on your phone or by the kettle. Make it part of your routine to welcome in JOY!

Give yourself permission to feel joy as you wait at a queue or sit in traffic. Allow joy to infuse itself into your heart and your entire being. Notice as you begin to see people and events a bit differently. Is it easier to go with the flow? How is your perspective changing?

Share your Story

Please share your story! I would love to hear how you Sparked Joy into your day.

And remember, you’re more loved than you think and there is only one you, Beautiful You.
Namaste,

Emily
