Authentic Power - what is it and are you in tune with yours?
Warning: A huge sense of empowerment may occur. Reader discretion is advised 😉
What does it mean to have true, authentic power? It’s not the type of power we see in politics, economies, or societal structures. It’s something far greater. In this post, we’ll explore the difference between external power and authentic power, how each manifests in your life, and practical ways to harness authentic power.
Tap Into Your Potential
The soul is incredibly powerful, holding a light and energy so vast that no physical matter could contain it. To navigate the physical world, the soul creates a personality—a way to dim and manage its immense power. While we can’t access the full brilliance of the soul in this physical form, we also don’t have to limit ourselves to mere external power. By understanding the difference between external and authentic power, we can tap into our fuller, more powerful potential. Wisdom and inspiration for this post comes from The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav—a must-read for anyone on the journey of self-discovery.
What is External Power?
External power is finite and operates within the framework of the five senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste. When we view power externally, we base it on what we can perceive through these senses. This type of power often leads to fear, control, and domination, as people try to manipulate their environment for a sense of security.
Zukav notes, "The need for physical dominance produces a type of competition that affects every aspect of our lives... It disrupts the natural tendency toward harmony between nations and between friends." External power can be gained or lost, bought or stolen, transferred or inherited. It's fragile and rooted in fear.
When we see power as external, it breeds division, competition, and fear-based leadership, as Oprah once said. This leads to cycles of fear and violence, causing deep pain in our lives. Fortunately, there is another way to view power: from within.
What is Authentic Power?
Authentic power is internal and limitless. As Zukav explains, it "loves life in every form that it appears" and finds meaning in the smallest details of existence. When we align our thoughts, emotions, and actions with our highest selves, we tap into authentic power, which fills us with enthusiasm, purpose, and meaning.
Unlike external power, authentic power can’t be bought, stolen, or transferred. It’s not about making others feel small or dominating any aspect of life. Instead, authentic power helps everyone connect to their own inner strength. This spiritual evolution is the purpose of our existence on the physical plane, pushing us to become more than just five-sensory beings.
Five-Sensory vs. Multi-Sensory
The five-sensory human sees the world through the lens of external power. They compete for limited resources, believing they are alone in the physical world and that their intentions have no impact on themselves or others.
On the other hand, the multi-sensory human understands that their intentions affect not only the physical world but also the spiritual realm. Every event is an opportunity for growth and evolution. Zukav shares, "From the perception of the multi-sensory human, every intention affects both us and others, and the effects of intentions extend far beyond the physical world."
This shift in perspective is life-changing. It encourages us to consciously evolve with every reaction and interaction. Instead of unconsciously reacting, we can use every situation as a learning opportunity for our soul’s growth.
Ways to Practice Authentic Power
Now that you know the difference between external and authentic power, reflect on which one you lean towards. How do you usually respond to life’s challenges? Don't judge yourself too harshly—this awareness is the first step towards growth.
Start by being open and curious. Expand your perceptions and challenge the frames of reference you’ve been conditioned to accept. As Zukav says, "When a question is asked that cannot be answered within the common frame of reference, it could be classified as nonsensical, or the person can expand their consciousness to encompass a frame of reference from which the question can be answered."
Keep stretching the boundaries of your awareness. Be conscious of your intentions, and practice responding with love and compassion rather than fear or anger. Remember, your authentic power cannot be taken from you—it’s an inherent part of who you are.
Authentic Power in Action
To illustrate authentic power in everyday life, I’d like to share two examples.
Over the past months, I have had a soul friend come into my life. The situation was quite overwhelming because on paper this was a new friend and there was no reason that I felt such a strong bond and connection with him. Recently he chose a new path of creativity which, whilst it was innovative to me, felt really off, fake and unaligned to his soul purpose and mine. On reflection, he has his soul path to lead and I have mine. Neither are wrong and both are legitimate. Despite the fact that I feel he is choosing a path of avoiding addressing issues, and he feels his new path will / could serve him, I send him love and light and allow him to explore and play in his world of imagination. By continuing to cheering him on spiritually, and stepping back physically, we can both continue to co-create, explore and play without disturbing my frequency and still wishing the best for his.
In another instance, I had a disagreement with a long-time friend. My initial reaction was frustration, but I realised this was an opportunity to evolve. Instead of letting the disagreement create distance, I chose to approach the situation with love and compassion, saying, “No matter what, I care about you.” This softened both of us and preserved our friendship.
Affirmation
"I am open to expanding the boundaries of my perception. I embrace consciousness in every situation and choose love and compassion every time."
Take Action Today
