7 Ways to Reconnect with Your True Self
Modern life makes it remarkably easy to drift onto autopilot - or to become tangled in a constant stream of shoulds and shouldn’ts about how we ought to eat, move and care for ourselves. We respond to others, manage responsibilities, meet professional demands and, at the same time, try to keep up with an overwhelming flow of wellness advice. Somewhere along the way, our own signals can get drowned out.
Reconnecting with your true self doesn’t even require dramatic change. It can begin with small, deliberate pauses - moments that create space to tune back into your body, your energy and your inner wisdom, so you can live, eat and care for yourself with more intention and alignment.
Here are seven simple ways to begin:
Reconnect with Your Energy
1. Calm your nervous system in 60 seconds
When stress rises, place one hand over your heart and one on your forehead and take five slow breaths. This simple hold from Energy Medicine Yoga© can interrupt the stress response and bring you back to the present moment. From a calmer state, your choices tend to feel clearer and more aligned.
2. Step outside and find the horizon
Even five minutes outdoors can help restore your energy. Lift your gaze towards an open stretch of sky, sea or landscape and let your eyes soften.
Research consistently shows that time in natural environments lowers stress, reduces mental fatigue and supports nervous system regulation. Expansive views quiet mental noise and naturally help guide you back into your body too - something many of us rarely experience in the rush of daily life.
Reconnect with Your Body
3. Express body gratitude
Most of us criticise our bodies far more than we thank them. Choose one thing your body did for you today - it allowed you to walk the dog, digested your lunch, carried you through a busy afternoon - and acknowledge it. Research in body image resilience suggests that regularly focusing on what your body does, rather than how it looks, helps build a steadier and more compassionate relationship with it over time.
4. Differentiate hunger from habit
The next time you reach for food, pause for a moment of curiosity. Are you physically hungry, mentally tired, emotionally drained or simply in a routine? How hungry are you, really? Paying attention to your body’s signals with curiosity rather than judgement helps rebuild trust in your appetite and reduces reactivity around food.
5. Eat one meal without distraction
Once a day, sit down to eat without scrolling or replying to emails. Notice the flavours, texture and when you feel comfortably satisfied.
When we slow down, not only do we find more satisfaction from food, but being more present and connected to our eating experiences helps us discover, or rediscover, our true preferences.
Reconnect with Your Intuition
6. Replace “should” with “what feels right?”
Before making a decision - whether it’s about food, work or how you spend your time - notice whether the word “should” is driving it. Then ask yourself: what feels aligned for me right now? Your body’s reaction can often give you a useful clue. This micro-practice of checking in with yourself can transform how you move through your days.
7. Protect one small boundary
Say no to one thing this week that drains you, even if it’s something minor. Reconnection often begins not with doing more, but with creating more space for yourself. Setting boundaries is a way of honouring your energy.
About Chakra Wellness and the REVIVE & THRIVE retreat
Chakra Wellness was created to offer women spaces to step out of the noise of daily life and reconnect – with their body, their energy and their inner guidance. We hold self-care focussed events and an annual retreat called REVIVE & THRIVE on Turkyie’s Turquoise Coast.
What makes REVIVE & THRIVE different from other wellness retreats?
“We believe women don’t need more information about wellness - they need space to reconnect with themselves.” We don’t add to the noise of the wellness world. Instead, we create space for meaningful personal insights to emerge, alongside sharing practical tools you can integrate into everyday life where it feels intuitive to do so.
Through Intuitive Eating coaching, Energy Medicine Yoga®, and a thoughtfully curated blend of experiences - including a private boat trip and hands-on cookery school - the retreat creates the conditions for something deeper and more lasting than rest alone. Women often leave not only with renewed energy, but feeling calmer, clearer and more connected to their bodies and inner guidance - with greater self-compassion, and more confidence in how they choose to nourish and care for themselves.
Our aim is to help you retune with your body’s innate wisdom, your energy and your appetite - so that back at home, your self-care and food choices come from a place of alignment rather than autopilot. This matters because even the wellness and nutrition spaces are increasingly busy and noisy. What begins as self-care can quickly turn into another to-do list, another routine to perfect, another area to feel we’re falling short.
Reconnecting with yourself simplifies things. It restores ease and gives you the confidence to make choices that genuinely suit you, without self-care becoming another task to manage.
2026 will be our sixth retreat, and over the years we have shaped a programme that feels contained and supportive, but with enough spaciousness for you simply to breathe, absorb the atmosphere and take in the beauty of your surroundings. The retreat is set in the stunning Kalkan bay with its expansive turquoise waters, green terraces and mountainous backdrop. The landscape itself invites you to drop out of overthinking and into felt experience - supporting true embodiment and restoration.
Who is the retreat for?
It is for capable, thoughtful women who carry a lot - professionally, personally, emotionally - and are ready to feel more balanced, energised and connected to themselves again. Some may feel disconnected from their body or over-reliant on autopilot habits. Others are simply ready to elevate how they approach self-care.
